What are you looking for? A sports car or a muscle car?

944 Turbo/S2/968. Well under that limit , but you'll likely need some of it to make up for deferred maintenance and regular upkeep. Past that, still some of the best road machines ever.

As far as Japanese cars are concerned, you might be able to swing a last-gen Civic Si that has 75k+ miles on it.

Rarer cars would include manual-transmission examples of the first-gen Lexus IS300 and SC300, but those don't seem to handle well enough in stock form compared to what you're looking at.

Ummm, everything? Price is a minor portion of selecting a car. Outline the other requirements for us to work with, such as desired performance, application, etc.

We're the previous Sis that good? The last one I remember desperately wanting was an EP3.

I reeeealy need to look into them.

I'm just massively lost. I know a car I DON'T want when it comes across my lap, but not what I do want. I've never had this much freedom of choice when buying a car before.

I suggested the last-gen one because there seem to be more examples of it in the used market than there are of the EP3. I dunno if it's better or worse, but it seems to still have a high-revving engine, good clutch and shifter, etc.

Noted. I'll take a look into them, along with the RSX, and some others. FWD Hondas were completely off my radar for whatever reason.

FWD Hondas are pretty much what I default to when I'm thinking of cars that handle as well as what you suggested, with early high-mileage 350Zs coming close behind. There's not much else like them in that price range that hasn't been snapped up or racked up 90k+ miles.

I have found something that might be useful:

The Speed6 seems to have a rear diff and transfer case problems. The rear diff bolts sometimes shear after "enthusiastic" driving. Also, the pin on the VVT actuator might break. This is just from some very basic research. Hope it helps!

Maybe if you add some more data we could come up with something nice.

Also, the general area were you live (the state, maybe) could be great for a good en-masse search.

I'm so unsure of what I want / need. Unfortunately. I'm probably going to be buying in a few months. It will spend its summers in West Texas but its falls/winters will be in either Colorado, or the Pacific Northwest depending on school.

W/ a nicely built 300+HP 5.0 swap and some cosmetic mods.

I mean, that's what I would buy with $15,000 just lying around.

RX 8, 350z, appropriate vintage BMW/AUDI, RX7 or....Miata (with about $10000 worth of upgrades or driving school or track time).

Next time I make a thread like this, I should clarify that I don't have 15K laying around, and that that number is the max amount I'll get a loan for instead.

Again, depends on the school. If I end up on Colorado I'll be looking in West Texas / Colorado / East New Mexico.
If the PNW It will be a smaller area around where the school is located.

Id say just keep looking for for the top 5 choices on a daily basis, giving you some options to compare what gets you the most bang for your buck.

Also. DONT COMPROMISE. If you want a certain color. Thats the color you should only look for. If you want leather (or not), dont settle for the latter. Youre spending a good chunk of change. Get exactly what you want IN a car. Each car will vary, but what things do you want that car to have specifically you would like to enjoy seeing each day.

Arent you almost pushing supra money? Almost?

I still vote s2k, prelude, S14, wrx...

Kinja'd!!! Spiderman, Non-Italian Imposter of Italian Spiderman. > MountainCommand
08/20/2013 at 21:38

Kinja'd!!!0

Well, I haven't clarified, but 15K is newer car money. I wouldn't run off and get an FD3S or Supra or anything with this big a budget. Honestly, Evo 8s, at a 2003 model, are pushing my age limit for a car that expensive.

Not at all opposed to getting an older car though. I know a well sorted S13 hatch w/ blacktop SR20 that I can get for much less than you see non-totaled items going for.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > Spiderman, Non-Italian Imposter of Italian Spiderman.
08/20/2013 at 21:55

Kinja'd!!!0

Ahhh, so the catch to you having that good of a budget to work with is that you are trying to stick with newer cars. I understand.

But i will say, those "older" cars will be just as reliable, if not more so, than the new ones. And the older the car, usually, its easier to work on. But definitely only get into one of the older (pre 2000) ones with a clean history, unmolested, etc etc.

But honestly, unless you go with something german, i cant think of anything between the years of 2003-2010 that we havent already mentioned. Honestly, i dont think there were many choices in those days. They were all boring, and if they werent, they definitely were not attractive.

mr2? (last gen is kinda girly though...) mustang? Rsx type s?

I've been thinking about the RSX. Outside of the S2000, I don't really know anything about Hondas, so it's going to be part of the research.

If I can be dead honest, I'd pay more than I should for a good Techno Violet E36 M3. I adore that car. Or a nice E46 330 ZHP. I've always had more than a passing interest in BMWs. They're way outside of my knowledge zone, and I don't know anything about their aftermarket, but I find myself drawn to them.

Especially a Techno Violet one.

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > Spiderman, Non-Italian Imposter of Italian Spiderman.

Kinja'd!!!0

I wouldnt go Rsx if you were already going to go s2000. The s2k would have better parts support, and is rwd. And i cant really compare them anymore since they really are two different beasts.

As long as you know what you are getting into with a bmw, then i dont see why not. But you have to be ready for the cost of owning to go up a little. They sure do have great parts support (at least it seems my dad has really good luck with that).

350z?

RX-8 is a viable candidate if you factor $8k for the car and $7k to replace the rotary engine...

It's all about what you want. If speed and ease of maintenance is what you're about, then a C5 Corvette is the best value you can have. If you want a fast motor in an econobox chassis, then the WRX and EVO are where it's at. If you want to impress 15-25 year old Fast and Furious guys, you can't go wrong with an S2000. But if you want a somewhat exotic, reasonably powered, mid-engine sports car that girls find sexy, then be patient and $15k could land you a not abused, sub-60k mile Porsche Boxster S (986) with a hard top, making it practical in winter.

Just saw this and had to say, as a hoonmobile the RSX couldn't hold the S2k's jockstrap. It's a better commuter and has similar power, but as for fun it's not even close.
